Teaching New Meanings For The Sorority Environment

â€Å"You quickly become what you surround yourself with.† This concept was a constant reminder my mother gave me when I moved off to college. As a senior, I find this advice to hold very true when I reflect on the organizations that I have been a part of. My sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha, has had the biggest influence on not only my character, but my language as well. What first seemed like jargon has now become primary language. From learning new meanings for everyday vocabulary to different intonational patterns, my language has adapted to the environment that I have surrounded myself with for the past three years. Within a sorority, there are various terms that are held secret due to our ritual ceremonies; however, there are also numerous terms that we will use in everyday language. These terms are average words that are used throughout the day by a vast majority of the world population. However, when the words are used in the sorority environment, they take on a completely new meaning. In other words, they are semantically altered. A primary example is the transition of the words big and little from adjectives to proper nouns. Instead of defining an object’s size, these terms are now used to name your big and little sister in the sorority. Health information technology was officially recognized as an allied health profession in 1928. Prior to that, in 1918, the Hospital Standardization Movement, led by the American College of Surgeons, implemented the requirements for a patient’s medical record. Believing that complete information was necessary and important to a patient’s care, the movement required certain items to be included. Any record created must contain the patient’s complaint, along with personal and family history and the history of the present illness. This includes the onset and symptoms. A provider must document that he/she performed a physical exam on the patient and ensure that any clinical studies like laboratory and x-ray results are included. Any past history, such as medical or surgical treatment must be included as well. Finally, progress notes, working or final diagnosis and any recommended follow up must be documented. Caste related issues make the human uncomfortable and rigid about communicating each other. The opportunities and scopes are specified in case of the people having comparatively lower caste.
